INDIA URBAN LAB
For collaborative development of our landscapes
The India Urban Lab (IUL) is an endeavor of Integrated Design (Indé) to collaborate with communities, institutions, organizations, individuals and government to debate, discuss and arrive at solutions addressing “wicked problems” experienced by rapidly urbanizing geographies in India. In other words, the IUL aims to initiate positive change across geographies through collaboration.
Integrated Design (INDÉ) in collaboration with Mahila Housing Trust (MHT) conducted the third India Urban Land at Ranchi (19-22 July 2022) with a thematic focus on ‘Water Resilience: Fostering Integrated Approaches at the Region, City, and Settlement Scales’.

“The river is 100 feet wide but the people out of greed are selling the lands on the floodplain. When the government decides to rejuvenate or restore the river the people squatting on river’s domain will be sent away"
PREVIOUS URBAN LABS
The lab articulated how water as a natural resource can be managed and utilised to offer potential ecosystem services to ‘provision’ informal settlements. The lab focused on the congruence of water (and the related ecosystem services) and informal settlements as against these emerging as conflicts often leading to the indiscriminate exploitation of natural systems.
The Lab discussed emerging questions around re-establishing commons as an intrinsic part of Goan identity on one hand and building resilience through natural systems on the other. The exercise explored the pathways around directing, managing and steering Goa’s transformation in a desirable direction – one that is in harmony with its ecology, attendant commons and rich biodiversity.
"India Urban Lab is a platform for collaborative engagement of academicians and practitioners across sectors to examine issues, challenges as well as opportunities for development in any region"
